Zamir Abbasi remanded in Karachi BRT corruption case

A court in Karachi on June 27 extended the physical remand of former project director Zamir Abbasi by four days in the BRT Yellow Line corruption case. The case involves allegations of corruption amounting to Rs 8.5 billion.

During the hearing, the investigating officer informed the court that another suspect in the case is absconding and that Abbasi had not provided complete details of bank accounts belonging to himself, his wife, and his mother. Abbasi told the court he had already recorded his statement and provided all necessary records, justifying his actions by stating the World Bank had directed an increase in disbursement to prevent a halt in funding.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) ordered Abbasi to be presented before the court again on July 1.
