Qatar has been eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2026 after a 3-1 defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in their final Group B match on Thursday. The loss makes Qatar, the 2022 tournament host and two-time AFC Asian Cup winner, the sixth team to exit the competition.

In the other Group B fixture, Switzerland defeated hosts Canada 2-1. The result secured Switzerland the top spot in the group with seven points, guaranteeing their place in the Round of 16.

Despite the loss, Canada also advanced to the knockout stage. Both Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina finished the group stage with four points each. However, Canada progressed on a superior goal difference, which served as the tiebreaker.

With the conclusion of the group’s matches, Switzerland and Canada have booked their spots in the next round, while Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar have been eliminated. In other tournament news, Colombia also qualified for the knockout phase after defeating Congo DR.
