Pakistan and Libya Discuss Enhanced Defence and Military Cooperation

The deputy commander-in-chief of the Libyan armed forces, Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, met with Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Wednesday. Upon his arrival, the visiting dignitary was presented with a guard of honour by a tri-services contingent.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two military leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security, and defence cooperation. Both sides emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral defence ties and expanding collaboration in military training and security.

Field Marshal Munir affirmed the Pakistan Army’s commitment to promoting peace and stability through constructive engagement with friendly nations. In response, Lt. Gen. Haftar commended the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and acknowledged their contributions to regional peace and security.

The meeting follows a previous engagement in February and a reported multi-billion dollar deal signed in December of last year for Pakistan to supply conventional military equipment to the Libyan National Army.
