The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly on Monday elected its new Speaker and Deputy Speaker unopposed. Imran Nadeem of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was elected as the Speaker, while Malik Kafayat-ur-Rehman of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was elected as the Deputy Speaker.

The election took place during the assembly’s first session, in which 30 of the 33 newly elected members took their oaths. The new Speaker and Deputy Speaker also took their oaths of office during the session. The development follows agreements between the PPP, PML-N, and the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) to form a government in the region.
