Explosion at Qatar Gas Facility Caused by Technical Accident
An explosion occurred at a factory in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City on Sunday, with authorities attributing the blast to a “technical accident.” Several injuries were reported, according to the country’s interior ministry.
QatarEnergy later confirmed the incident took place at its Barzan gas supply facility during the start-up of operations. The company stated that emergency response teams were deployed and successfully brought the resulting fire under control.
The industrial city is located north of the capital, Doha, and is the site of the country’s main LNG processing operations. A loud boom was reportedly heard in Doha at the time of the incident.
The interior ministry assured that there was no leak that “threatens safety.” Meanwhile, Pakistan’s embassy in Qatar issued a statement expressing concern and solidarity with the nation.
