The National Assembly has approved 125 demands for grants totaling over Rs 91.71 trillion for 31 federal ministries and divisions, marking a crucial step in the passage of the federal budget. The House rejected 307 cut motions moved by the opposition by a majority vote. The rejected motions included 90 for the Cabinet Division, 116 for the Energy Division, and 100 for the Finance Division.

Key approvals included over Rs 42.62 trillion for the Finance Division, Rs 6.61 trillion for the Energy Division, and Rs 1.53 trillion for the Cabinet Division. The defense budget of over Rs 3.06 trillion was approved, along with Rs 121.26 billion for Federal Education and Professional Training. Debate on 280 cut motions related to the Interior, National Food Security, and Poverty Alleviation divisions is scheduled for the next session.

The National Assembly has approved 88 demands for grants worth over Rs 43.85 trillion for the fiscal year 2026-27 federal budget, completing a key phase of the budget’s passage. Notably, the defense budget was approved unanimously by the house, as the opposition did not move any cut motions against the grants for the armed forces and defense production.

In total, the assembly approved over Rs 3.06 trillion for defense and defense production. Grants were also passed for numerous other sectors, including over Rs 192 billion for education, Rs 125 billion for communications, and Rs 107 billion for water resources, giving the federal government parliamentary authorisation to issue funds for the upcoming fiscal year.
