Pakistan’s oil industry has formally protested the recent significant reduction in petroleum prices, warning of an estimated Rs105 billion loss for refineries and oil marketing companies (OMCs). The Oil Companies’ Advisory Council (OCAC) stated the government’s decision was unilateral and inconsistent with established pricing mechanisms, accusing officials of repeatedly changing the formula to the industry’s detriment.
The industry has warned that the financial shock could lead to the bankruptcy of several OMCs, further shrinking foreign participation in the sector. The OCAC cautioned that continued policy instability threatens long-term market viability and investor confidence, potentially jeopardizing the country’s fuel supply chain.
