The city-wide transport strike in Karachi is set to continue after talks between the Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) and police officials broke down. KTI President Haji Tawab Khan stated that while the DIG Traffic agreed to review allegedly unjustified e-challans, he claimed reversing the system was beyond his authority, leaving the transporters’ key demands unmet.

The KTI’s primary objections include heavy fines under the e-challan system, a cumbersome biometric verification process for vehicle ownership transfers, and a mandatory third-party insurance requirement costing around Rs 12,000. Despite the ongoing deadlock and severe disruption to public life, Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Shah has stated that the transport minister has taken notice and the issue would be resolved soon.
