US President Donald Trump has elaborated on Pakistan’s crucial role in mediating the recent US-Iran peace deal, crediting the country’s leadership for “really helping” secure the agreement. In an interview, Trump stated that Pakistani leaders leveraged their deep familiarity with their Iranian counterparts, calling them “good” negotiators who “knew the people.”

When asked about influential world leaders, Trump specifically praised both Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir. “In Pakistan, you have Field Marshal Munir, who is great, and you have the Prime Minister, and they just get along great,” Trump said, adding that the military chief “totally respects the Prime Minister. It’s a beautiful thing to see.” The agreement has been officially named the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” to recognize Pakistan’s central role.
