Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi presented the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, proposing a total outlay of Rs 2.17 trillion. The budget includes a deficit of Rs 48 billion, which the chief minister asserted would be covered through the province’s own resources rather than by seeking loans. The presentation proceeded after PTI parliamentarians unanimously decided to present the budget, resolving earlier uncertainty.

The budget allocates Rs 1.645 trillion for current expenditures and over Rs 524 billion for the Annual Development Programme. It proposes a 13% increase in salaries for government employees and a 17% rise in pensions. To boost provincial income, the government aims to collect Rs 150 billion through its own revenues, introducing new taxes on the transport and hospitality sectors and offering a 30% discount on outstanding residential property dues for those who pay in full by June 30, 2026.
