Pakistan to Fully Transition to E-Passports, Introduce Home Delivery

Pakistan has decided to transition entirely to an electronic passport system as part of a comprehensive reform package aimed at modernising services, enhancing security, and improving public convenience. The decision was made during a special meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Passport and Immigration Headquarters in Islamabad. Officials stated the complete shift to e-passports will significantly reduce fraud and forgery, strengthen the integrity of Pakistan's travel documents, and align the system with international standards.

As part of a major passport system overhaul, a fully cashless payment system will be implemented across all passport offices starting July 1. Additionally, online passport applications will be migrated to the Pak-ID platform to streamline the process.
A new policy for business passports is also being finalized in consultation with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Officials have clarified that applicants opting for premium services will be charged fees corresponding to the actual expenses incurred.
