The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission has officially ended all election campaigning as of midnight on June 5, 48 hours before polling day on June 7. Citing the Elections Act 2017, the commission has prohibited all public meetings, rallies, and processions. Authorities have warned that any violations of the ban will result in legal action.

GB Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz Khan assured that all arrangements for a free, fair, and peaceful election have been finalised with strict security measures in place. Meanwhile, the PTI has alleged an “uneven playing field,” claiming its leaders faced discriminatory treatment and were expelled from or denied entry to the region during the campaign.

As the election campaign for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly concludes, authorities have significantly tightened security ahead of the June 7 polling day. Candidates made their final appeals to voters on Friday through rallies and door-to-door campaigns.

In constituency GBA-12 Shigar, 43 of the 71 polling stations have been declared sensitive or highly sensitive, prompting the deployment of additional Pakistan Army and Sindh Police personnel to ensure a peaceful electoral process. Gilgit-Baltistan Police reported that 614 political activities have been conducted peacefully since May 1 and urged citizens to remain tolerant and law-abiding.
