Prospects for a US-Iran peace deal have dimmed as talks remain in limbo following the rejection of a new US-brokered ceasefire in Lebanon by the Iran-backed Hezbollah. Iran has made a ceasefire in Lebanon a condition for any peace agreement with Washington. The developments have undermined US efforts to halt the fighting, with Israel also stating it would not withdraw troops from the country.
The geopolitical uncertainty has affected global markets, with oil prices set for their first weekly gain in three weeks on concerns of a prolonged energy shock. Brent crude futures held steady around $95 a barrel, while US crude was near $93. This comes as Iranian oil exports have fallen to a six-year low, primarily due to the US naval blockade.
