Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, campaigning in Diamer ahead of the June 7 polls, has vowed to immediately address the resettlement concerns of those affected by the Diamer-Bhasha Dam if his party forms the government in Gilgit-Baltistan. He urged the federal government to expedite work on the project, which he termed a necessity for Pakistan, quipping that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif should show his famed “Shehbaz speed” in completing the dam.
During the rally, Bhutto-Zardari called on the people of GB to elect a PPP chief minister and took a swipe at the ruling PML-N, stating that money might influence politics in Lahore but not in Gilgit-Baltistan. He also credited the 18th Amendment, passed during his father’s presidency, for enabling provinces to fund their own development projects. Separately, First Lady Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari also addressed an election rally, promising that a PPP government would create opportunities for youth, including IT parks and improved internet connectivity, alongside better healthcare and education.
