With general elections in Gilgit-Baltistan set for June 7, political campaigning has intensified as top leaders visit the region. PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, addressing a rally, lamented the state of local infrastructure and pledged development projects, reminding voters of his party’s past performance. Meanwhile, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also campaigned in Skardu, emphasizing his party’s pro-poor policies and long-standing connection with the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Election Commission has released the final list of candidates, with 403 contenders vying for 24 assembly seats. The field is dominated by 272 independent candidates, while the PPPP and PML-N have fielded 23 and 22 candidates, respectively. Notably, women’s representation remains minimal, with only eight female candidates in the race.
