At an emergency UN Security Council meeting, Pakistan’s permanent representative stated that the security and humanitarian situation in Lebanon is rapidly deteriorating, with expanding Israeli military operations and ground incursions. He reported that 2,000 square kilometres, about 20% of Lebanon, is now under illegal Israeli occupation, calling the strategy one of “indiscriminate killing, forced displacement, and occupation.”
The envoy cited figures of over 3,400 deaths, including women and children, more than 10,000 injuries, and over one million displaced people in Lebanon since March. While condemning Israel’s “irresponsible actions,” Pakistan welcomed US-led diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire, asserting that lasting peace is only achievable through dialogue. The statement comes as a partial ceasefire was announced between Hezbollah and Israel covering Beirut, though Israel’s prime minister has vowed to continue attacks on southern Lebanon.
