Russian Missile and Drone Barrage Kills 10 Across Ukraine

KYIV – A major Russian missile and drone assault struck Ukrainian cities early Tuesday, killing at least 10 people and wounding approximately 100, according to Ukrainian authorities. The attacks on Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, and other locations followed days of warnings from both Moscow and Kyiv about a potential escalation in hostilities.

The capital, Kyiv, faced a severe bombardment, with Mayor Vitali Klitschko reporting four deaths and 58 injuries, including children. A suspected missile strike caused a 24-storey apartment building to collapse, potentially trapping residents under the rubble. Other missile debris set a nine-storey block and cars ablaze in the Obolon district, with fires also reported near a kindergarten. Thousands of residents sought refuge in the city’s subway system as air defence systems engaged the incoming attacks.

In the southeastern city of Dnipro, regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha confirmed six fatalities and 36 injuries. In Kharkiv, 10 people were injured, including a child. The strikes came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy warned of a possible major assault and the Kremlin threatened ‘systematic strikes’ in retaliation for an alleged Ukrainian attack in Luhansk, which Ukraine denies.

Ukraine has also continued its attacks on Russian territory. Local authorities reported a drone attack caused a fire at the Ilsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region. In the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine, an 11-year-old boy was reportedly injured by a Ukrainian drone. Russia’s defence ministry claimed its forces downed 148 Ukrainian drones overnight.
