The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, described Pakistan as a “key regional power” and an important partner during the 8th EU-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue. She praised Pakistan’s behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts in easing tensions between the United States and Iran, noting its role in preventing escalation was widely valued in Europe.

Discussions also focused on the GSP+ trade scheme, with Kallas emphasizing that continued preferential access depends on measurable progress in governance, human rights, and environmental protection. The two sides reviewed cooperation on climate resilience, clean energy, and migration, noting that bilateral trade stands at around €12 billion. It was also revealed that Pakistan has topped the EU’s Erasmus Mundus scholarships for the fifth consecutive year.
