The visit of EU High Representative Kaja Kallas underscores the significant economic partnership between Pakistan and the European Union, which stands as Pakistan’s second-largest trading partner. Discussions are expected to review progress under the 2019 Strategic Engagement Plan, with a focus on trade and investment. The relationship has been significantly bolstered by the Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) status granted to Pakistan in 2014, which has boosted exports of key products like garments, textiles, and leather goods to European markets.

Beyond high-level meetings, the EU envoy’s agenda includes interactions with representatives from think tanks and academic institutions, signaling a broader engagement with Pakistani civil society. The strategic dialogue aims to further deepen institutional ties and expand cooperation in areas including development, climate action, and regional stability.
